The Proposal

Their one-year-of-dating anniversary was approaching, and Coulter would not tell Rykki any helpful hints about the surprise he was planning. He did, however, say that there would be “instructions” for her that morning.

On October 13th, she woke up and was instructed by text to go and check her mailbox, where she found a beautiful card instructing her to take the day off from work and to prepare to go to Crystal Lake in Star Valley, Wyoming.

Unfortunately, the weather in Star Valley that day was uncooperative, so Coulter had to find another aspen grove. He knew that Rykki had decided once while camping near Crystal Lake how she would like to be proposed to in an aspen grove. He wanted to make that dream come true. So, he cooked her breakfast and they discussed what they should do to celebrate their special day.

First on the agenda was a short hike from Rainbow Gardens. They enjoyed the view over Ogden, but Coulter hadn’t found the right place so they drove down the canyon and took the road from Eden to Logan so that they could go to the Willow Park Zoo. Rykki couldn’t help but notice that Coulter was scoping out every group of trees along the way.

And then, he found what he was looking for, pulled off the road, and parked. He said that he wanted to take some pictures together and set up his camera phone on a tree stump. The second picture was supposed to be a kissing picture, but he secretly set his camera to take video instead. He ran back over to Rykki, kissed her, and told her how much he loved her and that he wanted to be with her forever. He got down on one knee, pulled out the ring box he had been so carefully hiding all day, and proposed.
